Title: Untitled IV
Chair, light, Sticks, Ants, Sculpture (POP Bandages)
Dimensions: Variable
Year: 2019
This work deals with the problematics of life in Kashmir. A headless figure represents bare life. The cast was taken off from different live bodies. This headless entity is tied to a chair with ropes and the body is stuck in an uncomfortable position on the chair with two sticks; one kept to lock the back and another for limbs. The hollowness of the figure produced a vacuum, a void, inside as well as outside of it. The
sculpture was embellished with the dead ants mapped in a form of the Jhelum river from my own memory.
The work juxtaposes the opposites, bringing conflicting emotions of beauty and horror, desire and revulsion, fear and fascination in order to transform the familiar. While placing my practice
in my native, an attempt at understanding and speak of the universal ideas about loss, meaning and memory.
Title: Nostaligic Horrors
MEDIUM: Installation (Scent and video)
YEAR: 2019
These images are of the setup created for nostalgic horrors which is placed in a closed dark room with other works for exhibition. The setup would continuously defuse scent into the air where the audience would come to witness the artwork. The scent of dirt was placed in order to create a contradictory sensorial experience in the room where the darkness and sound would create a sense of clastrophobia while the soothing scent will create a scent-image of after rain. A Video (Loops of Spectacle) would continuously play on loop behind a cabinet door where a diffusor was placed. The video was to be viewed through a peephole on the cabinet door.
